Calamus (or Acorous) combines the demulcent effects of mucilage ( Mucilage is a substance which protects the mucus membranes of many systems of the human organism from irritations and inflammations that may trouble them) with the antiflatulent properties of its digestive oil and the stimulating action of its bitter elements. Due to this specific combination it is ranked as an excellent stimulus of the whole of the digestive tract. It can be used for all kinds of indigestion, gastritis, gastric ulcers and can also stimulate reduced appetite. It helps when there is exhaustion and weakness, caused by disorders of the digestive system.
