Iceland Moss, as a soothing demulcent rich in mucilage (Mucilage is a substance which protects the mucus membranes of many systems of the human organism from irritations and inflammations that may trouble them) is used for the cure of gastritis, vomiting and indigestion. It is also commonly used to cure catarrh of the Respiratory System and bronchitis. In general, it soothes mucous membranes. Additionally, its curing properties make it useful for treatments against Cachexy (Cachexy in medicine is described as the result of chronic malnutrition, usually due to a serious illness) a state of bad or insufficient nutrition and weakening.
